HALF-TIME FOOTBALL TIPS
byThinkwin
In making second half plays , first and foremost------- I need the ability to WATCH and take notes on the
first half of the game. This means the first half from the opening kickoff to the last whistle.
I don't watch the game looking necessarily for a half time play, but it's the development of the game structure that tips me off that a 2nd half play could be a soilid investment.
Most times I'll have money invested into the "whole game with either a
"side" or "total" and usually during the course of that
first half I'll be traveling with what appears the right side and sometimes I'll be traveling with action that is not looking good.. What I'm looking to do is exploit what is unfolding before my very eyes on game day---the"
here and now "of football in progress! What I normally look for are a handful of l key situations that develop as the first half of the game progresses.
Here are some of them:
WHAT TO LOOK FOR....HERE ARE SOME
I look for a QB who may be having exchange problems with his center which could flag a finger
or hand injury . I look to see how he's moving, is the defense is getting to him, is his protection holding up around him, is he living on the fence of getting sacked
,is he forcing passes and barely getting them off in time? Is he
acting stressed and on the cusp of unraveling ? All these previous
signposts signal he could be surrounded with personal and team problems ,or his
O-Line is overmatched in the trenches. Are his offensive linemen setting up quick and
smoothly ,or are they noticeably "cheating out" and dropping back
slightly off the line looking for better angles, because they can't contain the
speed rush to their outside.---Have any obvious injuries occurred or are experienced linemen moving badly, showing a limp or holding defensive lineman
and blitzing line backers and getting away with it or getting caught indicating being
over matched by opposing player.. I'm looking for tip-offs that a team is getting overwhelmed in the trenches, injury to a center (key position) and offensive line is on the brink of imploding. I'm looking for an offensive team to be on the
brink of OMINOUS things happening------ although maybe nothing yet is critical in terms of
what the first half score actually reveals. . IM LOOKING FOR A
"SIGNAL" THAT SOMETHING VERY BAD OR OMINOUS IS LIKELY TO HAPPEN TO ONE SIDE & I'M ALSO LOOKING FOR SOMETHING VERY GOOD LIKELY TO HAPPEN
FOR THE OPPONENT. All in the next half of the football game.
INJURIES
2. I'm looking for injury to key offensive and defensive personnel . A "go- to" receiver who is limping---ankle sprain or
hamstring either occurred in first half , or is old one perhaps re-aggravated or
not healed.. These injuries can make a great player less than average while a QB is still looking for the great players moves to be at the end of his break-offs and timing patterns. This
is when a clever safety sits in the weeds and plucks off the big interception or the corner back breaks on the ball for a clean pick. Conversely---an injury to a Defensive back--ankle , hamstring, concussion early, anything indicating
he's got speed and maneuverability problems. Rest assured----- the offense will exploit it.
You have to be watching the first half of the game as though you are a neutral scout or opposing coach. You are looking for individual weaknesses that can be exploited and turned into scores. You have to look for a second half scenario to be setting up in progress of the first half.
If you pick up on the subtle injuries you will watch them being
attacked and exploited in the next half of the football game.
3. Has a strongly favored team been moving the ball but not able to score because of turnovers.. Are they looking bad because of a busted coverage that resulted in a score or a spectacular, but out of the ordinary play, couple of fumbles that put them behind the 8-ball early
4. Has a team come out that has overwhelmed its opponent early and is steadily making long drives for scores and building up disproportionate play time for the opposing defense. Huge factor when a team's defense is being punished physically from the beginning, gets frustrated, can't make stops, gets careless mentally and you can sense the wheels coming off. These are the games where in football a team doesn't come back like in basketball. In football these teams that are "broken" early often get
pummeled in the second half because there is no will left
All these factors and others have to be evaluated in the first half and then applied to the half time odds. This is why in my opinion it is necessary to watch the first half. This is why the half time betting obviously works out for the bookie. People are making multiple second half plays based on a quick evaluation of the scores, a quick visit to NFL.com for first half stats, or glimses of whats going on while surfing channels, The solid hlf time plays that I see are where you "know" you will be riding with the right side based on what the first half performance unfolded, the physical and mental damages inflicted on one team, or the
observation of a good team having quirky breaks put them behind an early 8-BALL. If you understand the game of football and "scout" the first half thoroughly----- looking for the "tips-offs" or signposts as to what the second half SHOULD bring, factor in the second half odds correctly, you can have a bunch of very strong plays in second half football
